Moxi Dance Company is centered on innovative skill with a fresh creation of rhythm, spirit, style, freedom, aggressive energy, boldness, and emotion. The company is dedicated to taking the art of dance to all audiences through the one medium we all share, the body. For Moxi believes the body speaks a language of its own.
Moxi’s foundation came about as the all too common story we in the US of A like to call: The American Dream. We started as a group of friends looking for a place to dance, express and basically exercise. That’s when Jake and Sandra, our gracious sponsors, heard we had no place to dance and offered to pay for a space that we could all get together twice a week…. expecting nothing in return. How often do you hear of individuals who front money just so others can do what they love?! We owe them so much, and will always be indebted to their kindness and generosity. And so we took their gift and began dancing together and creating choreography (mainly styles in Hip Hop, but also Contemporary and Jazz) that we would try on each other. We soon came to find out our movement and style, though different, complimented each other and we began to see potential of something more than just a group of friends dancing in a basement studio. To make a long story short Jake and Sandra saw our potential as well and booked us as a guest performing group at the James Sewell Ballet concert at Tuacahn in Ivins, UT in October of 2012 where we received our first (but hopefully not last) standing ovation and the rest you can say is history. If you were to say we’d be in this position 2 years ago we would have laughed, but now looking back at our journey we realize this is where we belong. We are so excited and grateful to be able to perform and do what we love for the city that we love! We look forward to a long career in creating shows and experiences where audiences will taste the joy that is found in movement!
